The buying, selling, and possession of firearms in Australia is strictly regulated by federal, state, and territory laws. Each state and territory has its own firearms registry and licensing requirements.

  • Meet storage requirements appropriate to the firearm category
  • Complete mandatory safety training
  • Pass background checks and waiting periods

Firearm Categories

Australia classifies firearms into several categories, each with different licensing requirements:

Category HHandguns, including air pistols

Categories C, D, and H have strict licensing requirements and are generally only available to specific occupational users, collectors, or sports shooters.
